Toxic Legacy

Much of Jersey City was once put to use for heavy industry. While most of that industry has moved away, the toxic chemicals are still left behind. Jersey City Independent writes about chromium left at a site on Garfield Avenue.

Jersey City may be gentrifying, but that doesn't mean working class folks need to move out as the city has taken to building affordable, "working class" housing, reports the Times. In this case, several units in a Greenville project being made available.

Jersey City Church Makes Most Endangered List

Preservation New Jersey, a heritage advocacy group, released the 2008 list of the 10 most endangered sites in the state, with Jersey City's Sacred Heart Church making the list. Past Jersey City nominees have included the downtown Powerhouse and the Apple Tree House.

City May Sue to Save Hospital

Greenville Hospital may not be closing just yet if the city has its way, notes the Hudson Reporter. The hospital recently received state approval to close, and despite several other hospitals in close proximity, the city doesn't wish to see the 100 bed facility close.
