Left Bank Art Blog has a bit on a new mural under creation by artist Ron English in the downtown. The mural is going up at the Hudson Art Supply on First Street, just west of Newark Avenue. The mural is part of a larger project to create public paintings in Jersey City.

Megan Gülick Getting All the Internet Love
Jersey City artist Megan Gülick opened a show last week at downtown bar LITM. The Jersey City Independent has an interview with her. Aside from the the bunny rabbits hanging up in LITM, Gülick is working on a graphic novel that need only two words to describe its awesomeness: Granny Ninja.

More Fading Ads
Photographer Frank Jump likes taking pictures of fading ads as we pointed out last year. Well he's been around Jersey City again and posted more Jersey City fading ads. Always interesting, the old ads are a reminder of what the city once was.

Crafty Folks Needed
Go Go Distro writes that the Jersey City Craft Mafia (Craft Mafia?! Who knew!) is looking for volunteers for an upcoming art attack (This all sounds like very violent DIY). The April event will be held in Club H and present all sorts of arty, crafty things.

Toilet Art Displayed in Downtown Gallery
New downtown gallery Fish With Braids launched an art show with the toilet as the focus, the Hudson Reporter writes. The show includes toilet seats designed by local artists.

Grove Street Concert Series Nearly Finished
Groove on Grove, a summer concert series hosted in the downtown on Wednesday nights is almost finished. The Bryan Beninghove Trio and Any Day Parade have performed on the past two Wednesdays, with WJ and The Sweet Sacrifice playing at tomorrow's final concert. 'Sprawl' Artist Interviewed

Jersey City Band Gains Notoriety
The Black Hollies are headlining the Hamilton Park festival in a few weeks. The local Jersey City band meanwhile has recently been noticed in St. Louis and Chicago. The Hamilton Park festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, with a rain date of June 15.

Pizza and Art
John's Pizzeria, a recently opened restaurant in Paulus Hook, hired local artist Richard La Rovere to paint a skyline mural of Jersey City's waterfront, notes the Journal. John's Pizzeria has a Times Square location with a similarly fitting New York City skyline. The Jersey City mural captures the waterfront from Liberty State Park to the north end of the city line.

Grace Church to Host Arts Festival
The Cathedral Arts Festival, Hudson County's oldest arts festival, kicks off with a champagne gala on May 10th, notes The Life Vicarious. Advance tickets to the opening event are available for $40. The art show runs through Friday, May 23.

Fading Ads
Frank Jump photographs fading advertisements-- those antique advertisements painted on the sides of buildings-- around the metropolitan region, and then posts the pictures on his blog. He has captured many such fading ads across Jersey City in a strangely beautiful collection of photographs.

Bottle Sculptures Removed
Street artist "Pappi" installed glass bottle sculptures on First and Newark Avenues; the sculptures were later removed by the Jersey City Parking Authority. JC Register notes that the bottle sculptures were removed over liability issues. Be certain to take check out the photos of the sculptures.
